Understanding the Divorce Process

Divorce is one of the most challenging experiences you can face. At MCR Solicitors, we provide compassionate, expert guidance to help you through this difficult time while protecting your interests and those of your children.

No-Fault Divorce

Since April 2022, England and Wales have introduced no-fault divorce. This means:

  • No need to blame your spouse or prove wrongdoing
  • Joint applications are now possible
  • A simpler, less confrontational process
  • 20-week reflection period before conditional order
  • 6 weeks before final order can be applied for

The Divorce Process

  1. Application - File divorce application with the court
  2. Acknowledgement - Respondent acknowledges receipt
  3. Conditional Order - First decree after 20-week wait
  4. Final Order - Divorce is finalised after 6 more weeks

Related Matters

Divorce proceedings don't automatically resolve finances or children arrangements. We can advise on financial settlements, child arrangements, and ancillary matters.
